Created by the ICC

In 1994, the California Education Round Table Intersegmental Coordinating Committee (ICC) created a comprehensive set of resources for middle school students, their families, and educators to demystify the college process. The campaign has paid particular attention to the specific need for first generation college-going students and their families to know more about the academic requirements and financial resources that will prepare them to enter and succeed in the college of their choice. The focus on middle schools was deliberate and intentional: college preparation in general needs to begin no later than middle school—a perspective that is especially true in California if students are to meet the rigorous college admissions requirements in this state.

Looking forward to the future

The centerpiece of this suite of resources and strategies has been a consumable workbook, called College: Making it Happen, that has engaged and empowered both the middle school community in the state and the higher educational college preparation programs to collaborate for the last 25 years. Because the need for middle school resources persists to this day, we have revitalized the College: Make it Happen (CMIH) materials to reach and engage an audience of 21st-century students and the educators who guide them.
